The suspenseful 1965 war saga NONE BUT THE BRAVE marked Frank Sinatra's directorial debut - also produced and starred. The action takes place on a remote island in the Pacific where the atoll is held by a Japanese platoon that's been cut off from its command. When a crippled C-47 transport plane crash lands there, World War II suddenly becomes smaller - but no less deadly - for the Marines aboard.

After initial conflict, the Japanese leader (Tatsuya Mihashi) offers to swap the Americans water in exchange for the aid of Pharmacist Mate Maloney - played by Sinatra - who he mistakenly believes is a doctor. When Maloney steps in to save the life of a Japanese soldier by amputating his leg, a fragile peace is forged. But can it last? There are two sides to every war, and NONE BUT THE BRAVE explores the heroism behind both.

NONE BUT THE BRAVE was groundbreaking as a joint American-Japanese production through Warner Bros. Pictures, Sinatra Enterprises and Japan's Toho Film. Warner Home Video's DVD release of this classic film as part of the Frank Sinatra Collection includes the original theatrical trailer.

There are only a handful of people who meant as much to the world of film as they did to the world of music. I think the case can be made that Frank Sinatra topped them all.
