My Dad tells me a story of how Mr. Sinatra had one of his friends go into his good friend's deli while my dad was helping clean up. The problem was the deli was closed. Mr Sinatra's friend knocked on the door and my Dad's buddy said we are closing sorry. When the man said it was for Frank Sinatra, my Dad's friend said ok and while he is in there have him visit my mother in the hospital, she's a big fan, thinking the man was full of it. When Frank came to the front door, my Dad's buddy opened the door and hooked them up with meat. Frank said, according to my Dad, asked him where his mom was staying, in what hosiptal. Mr. Sinatra said he could not promise anything, but in the afternoon the next day, 4:00 or so, he would see what he could do. Well, my Dad and his friend where at the hospital the next day with his mom and sure enough, who came walking in, Mr. Sinatra. The man's mom was happy as could be. They were shocked to say the least. They told Mr Sinatra, they could note beleive he came and my dad remembers Frank saying, never say you will try to do something if you don't mean it.

This is a wonderful story that personified Frank's kindness,a personal side of his that we don't often see.Being Italian,Frank was I'm sure very food-oriented, so wanting to get something from the Deli(after it was closed)sounds typical of his Italianness.I wonder what Frank's diet was like;I saw him cook spaghetti on Dinah's Place in early 70's & use food lyrics in his singing(the girl that I marry..."& smell of(cologne)provolone")with Dean on Judy Garland special. He probably meant the sharp provolone.
