Milano 1986
In September 1986 I spent two weeks in Las Vegas to see Frank at the Golden Nugget. I had tickets for all four shows that were planned. On the morning of the first show all of them were cancelled. I never found out why, but you can imagine how disappointed I was returning home without having seen Frank.
The following day after our return I read in a German newspaper that on that evening Frank Sinatra would return to Italy after many years to perform at the Palatrussardi in Milano. I was so excited. Just nine hours were left before the show would beginn. My father - who had been with me in Vegas - got in our car and went down to Italy. One hour prior to the show we arrived, a very nice Italian couple sold us a ticket and I saw Frank Sinatra for the first time in my life. I was moved to tears by his performance.
After this I saw Frank several times again (in 1989 in Munich at the Ultimate Event, in 1991 in Frankfurt and in 1993 in Dortmund and in his final show in Europe in Cologne. All of these shows were great, in Munich I even managed to get a handshake with Mr. Sinatra as he was descending the stage. But never will I forget the experience of seeing him for the first time. The concert in Italy is a memory I will treasure forever. I have to thank my father, who after having returned from Las Vegas was willing to get in the car again to go with me to Italy.
All the best to all of you
Andreas

When I saw Frank with Ella at the Phila. Spectrum concert of '75 or '76, I remember him expressing gratitude at the soldout concerts in Philly. Then in his forthright manner he expressed disparingly of having sung in Germany. I recall that in the 70's or maybe 80's he had sung to a half-full house at the Cirkus Krone in Munich.this must've ben an exception with all the soldout concerts here during the "Ol' Blue Eyes is Back" comeback dates. I bring this up because Frank specifically mentioned it at the Spectrum-Ella concert that I attended.By the way ,that was a great concert with Ella, then Frank going solo, then their doing a duet medley reminiscent of the Frank-Ella-Jobim TV special medley of the late 60's.

Sinatra, Ella and Basie played Philadelphia on September 22, 1975.

Sinatra never performed at the "Circus Krone" in Munich at all. Following concerts in Germany in 1951 (Wiesbaden) and 1961 (Frankfurt/Main, with Dean Martin), in May 1975 he performed in Germany at the Olympiahalle (Olympic Hall, the city's largest concert venue) in Munich (May 23) and at the Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt (May 25). A third concert at the Deutschlandhalle in Berlin (scheduled for May 26) had to be cancelled because Sinatra's conductor Don Costa fell ill very suddenly. (For the reminder of the spring 1975 tour, he was replaced by Bill Miller as conductor).

Sinatra's next concert appearance in Germany was in April 1989 with Sammy Davis jr. and Liza Minnelli during The Ultimate Event tour, again at the Olympiahalle in Munich. In October 1991 he played the Festhalle in Frankfurt, with Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gormé, on his "Diamond Jubilee Tour". Finally, in 1993, Sinatra did a five-concert tour through Germany, performing at Dortmund (Westfallenhalle, May 31), Hamburg (Derbypark/open-air, June 2), Berlin (Deutschlandhalle, June 3), Stuttgart (Schlossplatz/open-air, June 5) and Cologne (Roncalliplatz/open-air, June 6).

Ted deCerchio to German Sinatra Society:
Herr Vogel,
Vielen Dank fur "Clarification" on Frank not singing @ Cirkus Krone. I was there in 1972 for a rock concert & @ "Olympische Halle" for the Olympische Spiele Gymnastik. They were both nice venues. And I'm glad Germany loves Frank.
Tschuss,
Theodor
