I'm an "old-timer" so I'll go with FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (1953). After all, this was the movie that brought Frank back from the depths of despair. Sinatra was born to play the part of "Pvt. Maggio!" NOBODY could have done it any better. In late March, 1954, Frank was awarded the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. From this point forward, he would go on to enjoy an illustrious career that is unparalleled in entertainment history, lasting seven (7) decades.

this ones breathtaking!

Mr. Sinatra did a remarkable job with From Here to Eternity. It helps us to never forget WWII and the tremendous sacrifice those courageous soldiers made. He played Maggio better than anyone else could; boy, did he deserve that award. I've heard that he had read the book and was determined that if they ever made a movie of it he would be Maggio. I'll say, if he hadnt played Maggio it wouldnt have been the same!

I just watched "From Here to Eternity" for the second or third time and it is a very good movie indeed. Many of the actors did a remarkable job, but I think Franks character is something extra special. The scene where Maggio dies is incredibly moving.

Frank not only did an Academy Award supporting actor for "From Here to Eternity",i've seen the movie so many times that I remember all the dialogue, but he did a beautiful job singing the theme(from album This is Sinatra I). What's interesting is that the instrumental theme woven throughout the movie is only offered in scenes with Burt Lancaster & Deborah Kerr, who were the primary romance of the film. And @ the end with Donna Reed & Deborah Kerr on the departing ship. The beautiful song does not appear in any of Frank's scenes.
Go check it out.

I had made a note of this last year,a correction, that the music theme of From Here to Eternity is played primarily during scenes of Montgomery Clift & Donna Reed,as well as some scenes with Burt Lancaster & Deborah Kerr.It still holds true that Frank's scenes did not have theme accompanying in background.I had mistakenly said that theme occurred in scenes of B. Lancaster & D. Kerr.It actually is in the scenes of "Robert E. Lee Pruitt & girlfriend Larene"(M. Clift & D. Reed) that theme mostly occurs.
