Al Martino, the singer of "I Have But One Heart" in Godfather I, passed away last week. After the movie came out, Al's portrayal of Johny Fontaine paralleled Frank's life too closely for comfort. The fact that the character Fontaine cried in front of the Godfather & showed weakness didn't fare too well with Frank. Even though Puzo always maintained Johny Fontaine was fiction. I always believed this scene was the most objectionable to Sinatra, not necessarily any other Godfather I Fontaine scene, which caused Frank to react with disdain or not @ all when in the same room as Martino or Mario Puzo.
I listened to Sid Mark radio show last Sunday, & heard no reference to Martino. I may have missed any tribute the previous Friday night. Afterwards I felt no expectation that Sid Mark would mention Martino because of Sid's posthumous loyalty to Sinatra.
